What is Peace?

Philosophy View Of Peace

Peace is a stress-free state of security and calmness that comes when there’s no fighting or war, everything coexisting in perfect harmony and freedom.

Biblical View Of Peace

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4 KJV

There are different ways of trying to find peace, one of the ways I want to elaborate on is the peace we get when we rest our assurance in Christ.

A few years ago, I was going through a real dark season in my life. I had no joy or peace never mind what I did things kept getting worse. On this particular morning I arrived at work and as I started getting ready for my shift I quickly mentioned to one of my colleague what a difficult time I was having, he advised me to read Psalm 91:10 which I did, I continued reading and meditating on the verse on a daily basis after which I began seeing real changes in my life.

Even now whenever I am feeling troubled I go to that verse, I think I was relying on my own strength to solve the problem not God, when the bible clearly states that we should lean on God and not our own understanding.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

A well known famous song writer wrote ” When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say it is well, it is well with my soul”. How many of us can relate to that song in our storm?

Peace is knowing that when you are going through the storm you remain calm, knowing that God will carry you through, because the peace of God comes when we excercise our Faith.

Peace is knowing that when we are going through trials and tribulations we can remain calm and put our trust in God.

In today’s society there is a real need for peace and soundness of the mind. Some of us, including myself at times tend to search for peace that cannot satisfy us, we try looking to money, relationships, drugs among other vices all the wrong things. God is saying to us today that peace is not something that we can work for.

The peace that we need is a gift freely given by God to us through His son Jesus Christ. The prophet Isaiah told us that Jesus the Prince of peace, fully reigns amongst those who believe in Him and grants peace to those who ask. Having God’s peace means unending contentment that surpasses human comprehension.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6- 7 KJV

In these modern times most everyone is fighting to obtain peace. According to Albert Einstein a famous writer articulates a very important point he wrote, “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.” Very profound, even as non believers we recognize that real peace is not gained by any other means but supernaturally like the word of God says we can only find peace in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Peace is not found in our ideas, religion or mindset. It is also not a product of something we do or don’t do. We cannot gather or collect peace by making or gaining something. Peace is found in a person, and that person is Jesus Christ.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27 KJV

Throughout the bible there are several scriptures that assures us of the promise of peace that it is made available as God’s gift to those who put their hope and trust in Him. Inner peace is something that all of us need, here are some ways that we can get and maintain inner peace.
