Praise is a Weapon

Biblical view of weapon

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12KJV

Our Christian life is a constant battle. A battle against the principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. Therefore, this battle cannot be fought with the use of physical weapons such as guns swords or shields; it can only be fought with spiritual weapons.

The Apostle Paul communicates this quite clearly in this letter and also informs us of the kind of armour we need to wear in order to protect ourselves against the enemy. Prayer as well as confession of the word of God are a few of the major weapons used against the enemy and his lies.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 KJV

There is another weapon equally as effective and that is the weapon called Praise. Its admiration or approval,” and when you’re on the receiving end of it, it feels great. Praise is very much an unknown, under- rated but powerful weapon for defeating the enemy.

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Acts 16:25-29 KJV

The keeper of the prison was asleep and suddenly there was a great earthquake that shook the foundation of the prison and unshackled the prisoners because Paul and Silas started praising their God, to the guards and the prisoners that was a great miracle. The keeper woke up and found the prison door open at which time he became troubled. When you praise God the enemy will be under subjection.

We don’t have to look far in the Old Testament to see praise at work in defeating the enemies of Israel. Joshua with the children of Israel experienced this when they were told to march around the walls of Jericho for six days and then the seventh day to march around seven times, and on the seventh time to shout with a loud voice of praise. The Bible narrates the story and the effects of their obedience in shouting with a loud voice of praise.

So, the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. Joshua 6:20KJV

Necessary steps to take using praise as a weapon:

When you are going through a battle of any kind, let praise always be your first weapon of choice.

1.Listen to praise music, even and especially when you don’t feel like it. Sing along for added benefit!

2.Praise God for who you need him to be for you in the midst of this fight, comforter, rescuer, avenger, wisdom-giver, healer, judge etc. Focus on his character traits.

3.Read scriptures of praise. Find scriptures that fit your situation.

4.Praise God that HE will fight for you and with you. Put the focus and shift your perspective back to him and his power to be victorious. Acknowledge that he is bigger than what you are facing, and that he can take ANYTHING and turn it around for good.

5.Praise God for a promise that he has given you from his word. Find a “Bible verse” or a scripture that fits your situation (the Holy Spirit will usually lead you to one—just ask him). Then praise God that he is a promise keeper and remind him of that verse.
