God’s Righteousness

Philosophy View of Righteousness: Is the quality of being morally right or justifiable.

Biblical View of Righteousness: Is that we are justified, declared righteous because we have had our sins covered by Jesus, this includes all our past , present and future sins, which we have repented of and therefore have been covered in God’s grace.

Righteousness relates to His just application of His law. One philosophy echoes that “God’s holiness applied to His relationship to other beings.” He separated a people unto Himself, and He wanted them to know what sort of people they were, they could only know this as they realise and appreciated His holiness.

But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. Jer 9:26 KJV

God delights in righteousness as He only is righteous and commands that we do what is right according to His own law.

That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? Gen 18:25 KJV

When we say that God is just, we are saying that He always does what is right, what should be done and that He does it consistently, without partiality or prejudice. The word just and the word righteous are synonymous in both the Old Testament and New Testament. Sometimes the translators render the original word “just” and other times “righteous” depending on the author.

And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and as performed thy words; for thou art righteous. Neh 9:8 KJV

Howbeit thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly:, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous: Neh 9:33 KJV

In these two verses we see the same words but whichever one is used it essentially means the same thing. It applies to God’s actions, which are always right and fair.

Good News: We are justified, declared righteous because our sins have been covered by Jesus, PASS, PRESENT & FUTURE. He then forgives us and remember our sins no more.
