Moral Attributes of God: Part 1

Today I will be looking at Communicable Attributes Communicable Attributes are the attributes that God has chosen to “communicate” or “ pass on” to us. God is a spirit and they that worship Him should worship Him in spirit and truth, John 4:24; It is for this reason we are able to show love, execute justice and have mercy on others. As believers, His spirit dwells in us to enable us, therefore by conforming to the image of God we are able to reflect His character.

The moral attributes that I want to emphasise are God’s Holiness & Righteousness

God’s Holiness Holiness is closely associated with His glory and majesty. His holiness means that he must be held in singular esteem. God’s holiness commands that we will have no other gods before Him, we should worship and serve Him only and treat His name with unique reverence. Our knowledge of God’s holiness is a driving force in our spiritual satisfaction. Reverence for God motivates us to turn away from evil.

“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” Proverbs 16:6 KJV.

Our reverence for God makes us submit to Him in obedience and conduct ourselves prudently before him. We are therefore called to be holy as He is holy. We are called to be holy in our behaviour, so we can be like the one who called us.

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, ‘Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear’: 1st Peter 1:15-17 KJV.
Focus for the day 1st Peter 1:15-17.
