In Scripture we discover the source and purposes for healing, as well as instruction and models for asking in faith. It is important for Christians to go to the Bible for directions and guidance and to approach healing in a biblical way, because there are many opinions about healing, and those who use healing in self-serving ways.

The Prophet Malachi closes the door of the Old Testament with a stern message concerning the corruption of the priests of Israel, the sins of the people against their families and their miserly conduct towards God. Malachi speaks of judgement and retribution upon the arrogant and the wicked, warning that they will be burned up like straw and consumed like a tree, God was rebuking the leaders of Israel.

“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the LORD Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them.

Malachi 4:1 NIV

Malachi is the final book of the Old Testament, it received its name from its author. In Hebrew, the name comes from a word meaning “messenger,” (that is, God’s) which points to Malachi’s role as a prophet of the Lord, delivering God’s message to God’s people.

Their job was to bring comfort, help and healing to the flock, but they had forsaken their God and their people. Despite the failure of Israel's leaders God closes the Old Testament with the promise of the new day that is about to dawn, “But you would fear my name the son of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. Wings can speak of God’s sure and swift approach of his shelter and solace or of healing.

The two beautiful metaphors in this text:

The sunrise of righteousness------The Sun of Righteousness is the spiritual sun with the presence of God in it. It can also be thought of as an Image of God, an Image in spiritual Light. Its light carries the Word of God. This presence of God is also known as the Cosmic Christ or the Holy Spirit.

Wings of help and healing-----Healing Wings is a place where people can come together in an atmosphere of peace, non-judgment, mutual support, and spiritual community. A place where people will receive quality teaching, guidance, and support throughout their journey.

But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.

Malachi 4:2 NIV

Paints the portrait of the mending of people’s hearts and minds. Bethlehem saw the sunrise when Christ was born to dissipate the darkness of people's Souls, Jesus came to save us from corruption, headache, and all manner of sinful ambitions. He came to lift us above all our pain on wings of healing atonement. He came to open the door of our heart.

Do you know anyone whose hearts needs opening comfort and healing that only God can give? I do. When a family member or spouse commits suicide, the business goes bankrupt or a fire takes everything away, who can bring comfort? Healing files from Calvary, swiftly down to trouble tunnels of time to those who fear His name. He promises comfort, and you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture. The son of God has risen with healing in his wings.

And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.

Malachi 4:2b NIV
