Biblical View of Binding Wounds
He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. Luke 10:34 KJV
Are you broken hearted? Have you been injured and feel there is no cure for your crushed spirit? God is ready to heal you. According to Psalm 147: 3 echoes that He heals the broken-hearted binding up their wounds.
Binding up wounds is intimate work. It is the tending to someone’s hurt that eases their pain and facilitates relief and healing. You can only do it well when it is done out of love. The skills you need here are love, presence, and open heartedness. The binding of wounds is a process fuelled by love but maintained by grace.
There are broken hearted people throughout the Bible, such as exiles who had been forced into captivity. (Psalm 137) Nehemiah 4:1-2 spoke about those who struggled against great odds to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, yet God”s promise to heal the broken-hearted is for all God’s people everywhere. God does not heal from afar; he involves himself in the healing process. Moses asked the children of Israel, For what great nation has a god as near to them as the Lord our God is near to us whenever we call on him?
But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, what do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned? Nehemiah 4:1-2 KJV
Deuteronomy 4:7 and Psalm 119 :151 Stated that God bind up the wounds of all who fail and “lifts up those bent beneath their loads”
For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for? Deuteronomy 4:7 KJV
Thou art near, O Lord; and all thy commandments are truth. Psalm 119:151 KJV
The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. Psalm 145:14 KJV
When God came to us in Christ Jesus, he fulfilled Elijah’s prophecy recorded in Isaiah 61:1-2 . He told his home church in Nazareth he had come to preach good news to the poor, to proclaim that captives will be released that the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors, and that the time of the Lord’s favour has come.
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; Isaiah 61:1-2 KJV
According to the great physician Luke we can be broken hearted for all sorts of reasons. Life can beat us up, we can be wounded dreadfully by rejection or abuse. We may be crushed by a cruel remark are difficult circumstances
And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, Luke 4:18-19 KJV
Ezekiel tells us that God is a caring Shepherd tending to his sheep. He will search for his lost ones who strayed away, and he will bring them safely home again. He will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak
God speaks to his sheep that are being hurt by unfavorable shepherds. Many of God’s people today have been injured by bad shepherds, leaders who have deeply wounded them. Church splits and controversies can break our heart, but the Good Shepherd is near and will bind of our wounds
I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.
Ezekiel 34:16 KJV
Conclusion
If you are broken hearted, call out to God. Remember that he is not a God who heals from a distance. The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him sincerely.
The human heart is an organ that pumps blood throughout the body via the circulatory system, supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide and other wastes, our heart is more than an organ that pumps blood through our body, it is also our conscience, spirit, and soul that indefinable sense of who we are. So, to be broken-hearted is to have your inner man, the seat of your emotions, passions and courage broken. We’re not therefore talking about something trivial. Heartbreak is a physical and spiritual sickness.
David emphasized whatever the reason for our brokenness. God wants to mend us He is in the business of binding up wounds
The Lord is nigh unto all of them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. Psalm 145:18 KJV
A broken heart leaves a wound.
A broken heart need healing.
Continue to allow the good shepherd to live in your heart thereby maintaining a healthy body, mind and soul which will in turn help us to help others with their healing process.
