As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17 NIV
The aged women, likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things.
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children.
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5 KJV
I would like to ask the question, do ever feel like Christianity is just a lot of do’s and don’ts? Or maybe the Bible appears to be too much trouble to read because it seems full of restrictions. Once you get to understand God’s law, you would never want to stop reading it. Sometimes “God’s law” means the Bible in his entirety. Other times God’s law does indeed refer to the laws God gave to his people that he expected them to follow. Probably the best known of these laws are the Ten Commandments.
In them God gave Moses a pretty substantial message for us. On tablets of stone were written ten things he wanted us to know so we could set about doing them. These laws were given to the Jewish people to give to the world. While some in today’s culture don't want to admit it, these Ten Commandments from the foundation of our society, the bedrock of our system of law and order.
The Ten Commandments are expanded and explained in the ordinances and judgements, the legal pronouncements and rules of divine administration found in the book of Moses, the Pentateuch. The statues that Psalm 119 extols are the civil and religious application of the Mosaic law
The Bible is a whole book. The Old Testament is it preparation for the Gospels, which contain the manifestation of the living word of God. The Acts of the Apostles, the propagation of his message, the Epistle, the explanation and the Revelation, the consuming of all things. The Bible is God’s library, yet some of us don't even bother to join God in Christ intervened in human history. The Old Testament sets the stage for it and the New Testament describes it as it happened.
By concluding I would like to take the opportunity to remind us that the Ten Commandments are not ten suggestions, they are the foundation not for some but for all foundation of life. They have to do with our relationship to God, to other people and even to ourselves. Psalms 119 tells us the laws are:
• Good
Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.
Psalm 119:68 KJV
• Fear
Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments.
Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.
Psalm 119:137-138 KJV
• True
Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.
Psalm 119:151 KJV
According to Matthew 24 :35 stated that Jesus said Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will remain forever.
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Matthew 24 :35 KJV
Words set substantive are worth investigating don't you think?
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:2-17 KJV)
1 “I am the LORD your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me.
2 “You shall not make unto you any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: You shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my Commandments.
3 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
4 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shall you labour, and do all your work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
5 “Honour your father and your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God giveth you.
6 “You shall not kill.
7 “You shall not commit adultery.
8 “You shall not steal.
9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
10 “You shall not covet your neighbour's house, you shall not covet your neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is your neighbour's.”
