Extraordinary Ordinary People

Philosophy View of Extraordinary

Describe something or someone as extraordinary, you mean that they have some extremely good or special quality.

Biblical View of Extraordinary

As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger.

The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped, and all was calm.

Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?” The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!” Luke 8:23-25 NTL

The moment we hear the word ‘extraordinary’, we think of famous people, Spiritual gurus, or geniuses of the world. Because of this, people like you and me, the thought of ourselves becoming extraordinary seems far-fetched—that’s why we don’t even aspire for it. However, it’s not only possible, but also easy to reach personal heights.

The Bible tells us that God often uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. For example, God chose an ordinary old man named Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery from Egypt. God chose an ordinary shepherd boy named David to become the king of Israel.

What makes an ordinary woman extraordinary? The presence of God in her life and holiness of God in her behaviour. The holy anointing oil set Israel’s priest apart for a life of dedicated service to God. God gave Moses a recipe for the holy anointing oil used in the ritual of the Tabernacle and the anointing of the priest. We are told that it was to be made up of four specific spies:

1. The perfumer was told to use myrrh, a costly and rare spice that was used in healing remedies, beauty treatments and embalming

2. Sweet cinnamon (taken from the bark of the cinnamon tree, a spice of laurel brush) was included, giving wonderful fragrance, Cassia.

3. This spice was taken from dried flowers of cinnamon tree. This spice speaks of purity or transparency.

4. Cane or sweet calamus was extracted from the root at the reeds by the river. This fragrance was obtained by crushing or brushing.

Extraordinary people ‘do things’ to make their life more valuable and different than the rest. It is about acting in ways that are uncommon or unexpected, and going out there and doing something way beyond your perceived limitations. Action definitely leads to being extraordinary.

This oil was never to be used on an “ordinary” person. The priests knew how to make this totally distinctive perfume or oil, and the temptation must have been great to make a little bit extra and sell it on the side. But God knows the human heart and forestalled the intentions of forbidding such merchantry. It was not to be sold for the profit by the perfumer in the back streets. You must never make any of it for yourselves. It is holy, and you must treat it as holy.

Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you. Exodus 30:32 KJV

One reason for this was that the unique fragrance of the anointed person would single him out, leaving no doubt that he had been set apart by God.

These are powerful pictures. Since Pentecost, all believers are priest, anointed by the Holy Spirit to do his work, He has made us his Kingdom and his priest.

And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Revelation 1:6 KJ5V

However, Pentecost comes only after Passover. Before the priest could be anointed the oil had to be obtained and before the oil could be obtained the spice had to be collected extracted by bruising! like the choice spices, Jesus had to be crushed by our sin before the fragrance of His precious life would be mixed with the oil of the Spirit, anointing us for God’s service! It may cost us to serve God, but Christ was crushed to make it possible.

Five Traits that Makes you an Extraordinary People

FOCUS: Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything, worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8KJV

KINDENSS: And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 KJV

WILLINGNESS: “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” 2ND Corinthians 8:12 KJV

ABILITY: I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy. Luke 10:19 KJV

JOYFULNESS: Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness Colossians 1:11KJV

CONCLUSION

God has created us to be extraordinary people. When he left earth and went back to heaven he sent us the Holy Spirit the third person of the trinity to live in us, for all those who believe in him, that in itself is truly extraordinary. Therefore we as believers should never forget the abilities we have if we continue to live in God’s presence. Let’s us show the world that when we come to know Christ its the beginning of an extraordinary life no matter how ordinary you might be.
